Editing blog

Hello! My group and I are so excited  that we got to work on this music video project. After filming and editing it I don’t think we could’ve been more proud of how it turned out. In the first filming project we did we used our school’s camera and editing program, Pinnacle studios but this time we decided to try out something different.  We all agreed that it would be more convenient to shoot all of our footage on our phones.  Additionally, we decided to use iMovie on our phone to put together all of our footage and edit.  We all have much experience using this tool and thought it would be to our advantage to use this instead.  Which in the end we feel was a very smart decision.  Not only did we save time by not having to dump or risk losing footage we also were able to edit at any time not only when in class.  So after we filmed everything we needed we began to edit.
To begin our editing process  I started by opening up the app iMovie and clicking on the import application.  My group and I collectively watched through all of our footage and favorited the ones we wanted to use and put it into a separate folder so that they would be easier to find. After that we went to YouTube and searched up the clean version of Hollaback girl by Gwen Stefani. Then I screen recorded and saved the audio so that we could input it into the background of our video.  I added in all of our clips and watch them all the way through to see how they looked together.  One of the most important parts of us editing was making sure the audio and lyrics from the song was aligned with our actors lip-synching.  So we cut , shortened,or stretched  all of our clips to make sure it matched up perfectly.  Along with that it was important that we kept track of the time of our footage and edited them to make sure it fit our limit and overall aligned.  Another aspect that we had to take into consideration what is our transitions.  Now, overall I don’t believe that our clips look choppy with how they are put together and we did not want to go over our time limit so we decided to leave it how it was without any special transitions.
Prior to begin editing I thought that this process was going to be more of a hassle and at times stressful than it was, which I was very pleasantly surprised by . I think the fact that we used iMovie was a big part of this. I was comfortable with using it because of all of my past experience which helps for my group and I to bring our editing ideas to life.  I did have a good time editing this project I find editing very fun and a great way to make our footage really something special.  There wasn’t anything that really went wrong during editing which was good.  I’m excited to edit in the future and learn different techniques two edits above and beyond an average video. My whole group worked very well together not only in the editing stage but in planning and filming as well. There wasn’t much editing that need to be done in all honesty. However with what we ended with I feel definitely gets the job done. I cant wait to edit more and get better and better.

Final filming blog

Hey everyone today I will be talking about how our filming went and what we had to do to finish it up. My group and I started filming last week and it was so much fun. We enjoyed having the opportunity to make a fun a creative music video. We got a lot of the filming done.  Last week we stayed after school to film the parts in our music video that were supposed to be at school. It was really fun filming at school, it was a little embarrassing at times but overall it was a lot of fun.  It took us two days to get all the school footage for the music video. During the thanksgiving break we decided to go and film at the park. Filming in the park was so fun, it was a beautiful day and we got some good shots. I really liked that we filmed in the park, especially for a music video. There were many filming opportunities in the park which was great! There was also many people there and that was kind of frustrating because they kept getting into the shot. There was also many background sounds of kids yelling, but it’s ok because we are going to insert the music. I’m just happy that it was a nice day out, I’m glad that it wasn’t raining or cloudy. So overall it was a great day to film at the park.
We had three places that we needed to film to finish the whole video. The first place was the school and to film everything we need. That took a couple of days for the school part. The second place was the park it took us one day to film but it took so long. The park was so much fun because we got to hang out after. The final place that we filmed at was the grocery store, we filmed the most at the grocery store. We filmed the parts where alex and I had a conflict and how we connected after dancing. We danced a lot in this store this was really difficult because there were so many people in the store. We had to reshoot a lot because we messed up or someone walked in our shot. We were all a little nervous because we were scared that we would get kicked out of the store. It was really funny because there were so many people  staring at us and people coming up to us asking what we were doing. We tried to not get in the way of anyone but it was hard because there was so many people. I really liked the places that we went to for our music video. I’m really happy that we went to the grocery store because I got some food after we were done. So overall this was amazing and fun and I’m so happy we did this.

Filming blog

Hey guys so today I’m going to be talking about my filming process. So we started our filming process for our music video, and it was so much fun! My group and I were so excited to start this music video journey. When the teachers told us about this project we got so excited, and immediately we started to think about what song we would do. Once we picked a really good song we decided that we were going to film on our phones. We decided we were going to use our phones for filming because we would know that everything in always with us. So our plan for the day of our filming process was to first get our tripod for the phone. We need the tripod so we could set up our phone if no one could hold it, or if we don’t want the shot to be shaking.  Before we could get our tripod we needed to fill out a form. So the first thing we did when we got into the class room was to fill out the form. So later that day our plan was to stay after school to film on the track. So that was a whole thing first we had to ask our parents. Then when we got to the place we had to ask permission to film on the field. Once we got to the field we had to look for a coach to see if they would let us. If they did then we would start filming.
So we got the plan done, and we finished up our storyboard in class that day. In class that day we had to finish up our storyboard and our plan. We also had to finish up the two blogs if we didn’t finish them. So after school we did our plan we went to the field and started to film. We saw a coach walk into the field so we went over to him to see if he would let us film, he said yes! So that part of our plan went by really good. So after that we set up our tripod. But we ended up not using it so that was a waste of time lol. Then after that we decided to start filming and that took a while.  We had to take a lot of redos because of the people in the background. We also ended up switching roles which was pretty funny. It was also kinda hard to get good lighting because the sun was setting. The filming went pretty good I was really happy about it. It was kind of embarrassing at time because there was so many people watching but that’s life. So overall it was a very good and fun experience.

Storyboard

Hello! Today my group and I’s next step into making our music video was to create our storyboard. We utilized the storyboards in our last project and it ended up being extremely helpful. With a clear and percise storyboard to reference when we film it tell us exactly how we want our vision to be brought to life. In the first box which represents about 4 seconds of the song we will be shooting on a soccer feild and we will use a tracking shot to film the main girl (Ava) walking up to the villain (Alex) bad talking her. Then the next box is the next 4 seconds and Ava goes to slap Alex and the beat drops and the beginning of the lyrics begin. Then the next box is representing when the chorus starts which is 9 seconds long and it’s a tracking two shot. Then the next 9 seconds is the chorus again and it will be Ava still walking on the track lip syncing to the chorus. Then as you can see in the 5th box it jumps to a grocery store where we will film us dancing in the aisle for 17 seconds. The next box jumps to us in bayview park where we will continue to use a tracking shot while the next verse plays. Box 7 will be a flashback to show how the problem/ fight in the video had begun. Then the next box is back in bayview. We will continue to sing the next part of the song before it jumps back to the chorus. So far we had filmed in 3 different locations the feild, the grocery store, and the park and for our last two boxes we decided it would be cool if we shot us dancing in a combination of all locations. We will sing to the chorus again until the end finish time switching back and forth between all locations. And that is our set storyboard plan for filming our music video of Hollaback girl by Gwen Stefani. I am so excited to begin filming especially with such a detailed storyboard to help guide our vision.

Planning blog

Hello ! My team and I are in the beginning process of planning for our music video project which is for the song Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani. We were all estastic when we realized we were going to be able to create or own style video for this song. We got into class and sat together we had a little bit of a vision of what we wanted the project to look like we didn’t have it scene by scene played out. We were excited to sit down and put our ideas together and on paper to bring our video to life. We all individually brainstormed for a few minutes thinking of just where to start. We knew that the planning stage was very vital to creating a successful end product. With being very organized we knew it would make the whole filming process much easier. It for sure did with our commercial project. So then we began.
The first thing that we did was watch the music video and pick which minute and 15 seconds we wanted to use for our video. We all agreed to use the first minute and 15 seconds which we thought was a good idea becuase the beginning sets the tone and includes the chorus twice. Then we googled the lyrics to section them off in different parts for how we wanted to film for each lyric line. So on a paper we wrote down each line and figured out how much time it took up. It ended up being a total of one minute and 13 seconds. As we went through we shared some good ideas of what we can act out for the lyrics. In the beginning we decided that we wanted to start off with a fight type scene becuase we felt as though the song was about a fight so we thought it was appropriate. During that time we also thought it would be a good idea to insert a flashback of why a fight was breaking out. And then it was time to think about our Mis en scene.
We needed to pick our locations next. So we thought it would be a good idea to shoot the first shot on our school’s soccer feild and then the next couple of ones of on our track. Then we came up with shooting in a grocery store as well to add some diversity and also in a park and then for the last 17 seconds which is the chorus to shoot a combination of us in all of our locations. Then we were expressed the importance of health and safety, so we will be having a first aid kit with us at all times and whenever we are driving to any location all of us will be wearing a seat belt. Our lighting will be bright. We will have props such as grocery carts, a ball, backpacks, and food. Our costumes will be as close to the original video as possible to give off the same vibes and follow that convention such as straight hair, chains, hoops, crop tank tops, jeans, and beanies. Overall we are very excited to start filming becuase our planning makes it seem like it’s going to be very fun to film.

Music video introduction

Hey guys today we are starting a new project. The new project is going to be a music video! We are so excited to lip sync and create a really amazing music video. After our last project we feel really confident that we will do a good job with this new project. We figured out what worked and what didn’t work in the last project. We found out that the schools camera didn’t work that well and that we are going to use our phone to film. Today we are deciding what song we are going to do.
My group and I chose the song halla back girl by Gwen Stefani, which was released in 2005. My group agreed that we love this song, it’s a song that we all grew up listening and jamming out to.This song was a very popular song for the time it came out. This song was very successful on the charts. We all had the idea of coming up with this song. We had many ideas of how we can make this music video the best it can be. We are so excited to use some editing techniques to make this music video amazing!
The conversations for this music video can be summed up in the word CLAMPS. C is for costumes. The costumes in this halla back music video is 2000s California street clothes. For example low rise jeans, cheerleaders, and a band. L is for lighting, the lighting in this music video is bright the whole time. This is because it’s an upbeat song. A is for actors, in this music video there are a lot of people. There was a lot of diversity in the music video. M is for makeup, the make up in this video is a lot of 2000s inspired makeup. For example red lipstick, thin eyebrows, dark eye makeup, there hair was always in braids or down. The props for this video was a lot of stuff. For example they had Pom poms, band equipment, cars, and signs. The setting for this music video was in a bunch of different places, some of the places were the street where she’s in a car. Another place was school, she was at school a lot dancing and singing. The last place that she was at was  the grocery store, where she kicked food over and danced some more.

Editing blog

Hey guys today in class we finally finished  editing yay! We started editing on Tuesday, we were so excited to start editing. We grabbed a computer and got our notes out and started the process. First we  logged into our pinnacle studios account and looked through all of our footage we had on our camera. It was a lot of footage there were a lot of bloopers. It was kind of challenging trying to remember which ones were not the bloopers and which ones were the actual good footage. Once we found all of our footage we dragged it into pinnacle studios. Once our footage was on pinnacle studios we dragged it down to start cutting it. This part was really fun!
Cutting it was fun but difficult, because sometimes you would cut to much out and then you would have to start over again. We cut our footage so it would be exactly 30 seconds. That took a while because we kept on messing up. After we cut it the bell rang so we had to edit the rest of it the next day we had this class. When we got to class the next day we  immediately got to editing. We rewatched our commercial from last class to make sure it was exactly 30 seconds. It was so that was a relief. After we rewatched it we decided to put in some music. We thought this would be the easiest part but we were wrong. We tried looking up how to do it but that didn’t work.
So we tried asking multiple people. No one seemed to know how to do it. We were about to give up until I asked one of my friends. And he knew how to import music! We were so excited that he knew how to do this. So he showed us what to do and we learned how to do it. So we imported our sound and dragged it to pinnacle studios. We had a little trouble cutting it to be just right. But at the end we finally did it. After we got the sound in, we rewatched it one more time to make sure it was good. We were so happy of the outcome of our commercial!

Editing Blog

Hey guys today we were supposed to edit our commercials,  but our school computers were not working so we didn’t have the chance to edit. Last class we filmed and dumped our footage on to our computer. One of our group mates made an account for pinnacle studios.  This morning we walked in and got right on a computer, so we would have a computer to edit on. So we logged on to the persons account that we had our footage on, and searched up pinnacle studios. Pinnacle studios is the app that we have to use to edit our footage. When we searched it up nothing popped up. We were kinda nervous that it wasn’t popping up. We called the teacher over and asked what we should do, and the teacher said that we can try transferring it onto another computer, or we can blog about it not working. So we went to another computer and tried transferring it onto that computer.
So we transferred our footage onto our flash drive. After we put our footage onto our flash drive we moved to another computer to see if it would work. We logged on and waited for a long time because it was being slow. Once it finally logged into the account we searched up pinnacle studios. We found pinnacle studios and plugged in the flash drive. After we plugged in the flash drive a message popped up and said something around the lines of this is not working sorry. So we were really stressed at this point. We called the teacher over and asked what we should do now. She told us that none of the computers are working and to just start blogging. Now we’re here.
So now I’m going to talk about what we would have done if the computers weren’t working. After she said to start talking our group got together and talked about what we should do. We talked about what we are going to do next class to get our editing done and out of the way. We discussed what sounds we are going to put in it and if we are doing any effects. At the end of our discussion we figured that we are going to do the McDonald’s theme song. We talked about what we were going to do if the computer doesn’t work next . My group and I are really upset that we couldn’t edit today. Today was really stressful but it’s ok things happen. I hope that next class the computers work. I’m really excited to edit and learn new skills next class. Maybe I will go home and do some research on how to edit.

Filming blog

Hey guys, so yesterday my group and I filmed our commercial and it was so much fun! After learning all the stuff about the camera and the camera angles we put our new skills to use. There were a lot of steps to prep for our filming of the commercial. The first step was to pick out what we wanted to sell in our commercial, and we had to do some research about the product and see how we could advertise it. After we picked our product we made a plan of what our commercial was going to look like. We made to plans just in case the first one didn’t go well. After we planned everything out we learned about to to use the cameras and the equipment. This part was my favorite because I love learning about cameras. Then we planned out what makeup and costumes we were going to wear during the film. After all that was done we finally started filming.
I honestly thought filming was going to be really stressful and kinda hard at first. I thought it was going to be stressful because I didn’t know if we were going to have enough time to film everything. Or if we were going to forget a prop or a line, but once we got into our makeup and costumes and stuff it was really fun. During the filming my group and I couldn’t stop laughing at each other because everything was just so funny. I was dressed like a clown so people were laughing at me and honestly I don’t blame them. Filming went by very smoothly, everything was really good. We got done filming kinda early so we had plenty of time to take my clown makeup off and start dumping our footage. After the filming I felt really good about it. My group and I thought that it had the perfect amount of comedy and seriousness in it. So overall after filming I felt very confident about it.
During filming my group and I all had different parts. My part was to act like Ronald McDonald the clown. I acted in the commercial and it was super fun. I really liked dressing up as a clown. Alex also acted in the commercial. Her role was the girl Ronald McDonald gave the food to. Alex was a really good actress in this. Morgan was the camera girl. She filmed everything and she was so good at it. She was really good at getting all the angles. Jake was the director, he told everyone what to do and he did amazing! Overall it was an amazing experience and I’m so happy we did this.

Storyboard

Hello! This is my group and I’s storyboard for our Mcdoanlds commercial. Each box represents a plan of 6 seconds of our commercial. In the first box we plan to shoot using a tilt up shot to introduce Alex into the frame and she will be sitting alone with a sad expression on her face with sad tone music playing in the background. The next box we plan to zoom in and have a close up on Alex and she will say that she is having the worst day and then reach into her lunch box/backpack to get some food and realize that she doesn’t have any. Then in the next box it will be a medium shot where Avalon as Ronald McDonald comes in holding a Mcdoanlds happy meal and saids to Alex “I know what you need.. a Mcdoanlds happy meal!” Then in the 4th box Alex will have a happy smiley expression on her face and has the Mcdoanlds in front of her and saids “Oh my gosh, this is just what I needed” and during this time we will also being using an over the shoulder shot that goes into an eye level two person shot. Then the last box and last 6 seconds will be a long shot with an insert of the Mcodnalds logo Alex smiling with her Mcodnalds walking up to camera and the Mcdoanlds tune will be playing in the background and she will say the slogan “I’m loving it!”

Hey guys it’s Ava  today in class we learned how to export video footage, and how to work a camera and a tripod. The first thing that we learned today is how to check out and how to work a camera. We went over how to fill out the sheet to allow us to receive a camera and the steps to making sure everything is in order and doesn’t get lost. After we went over how to check out a camera, we went over how to work it, how to turn the camera on and off, how to charge it ,and how to put the SD card into the camera. We also went over how to put the camera into the tripod and how to attach and tighten the camera to the tripod.
After we went over how to work the camera we learned how to dump. Dumping is when you take footage from the camera and put it onto the computer. We learned what sights to use, one of them was pinnacle studios, and we learned that only one person in our group will log into pinnacle studios and the whole group will only use that one persons log in. We also learned how to put the footage into a folder and what to do if we can’t find the folder on the computer.  If you can’t find you footage you go to pirate AVCHD then you go to your stream (everything on your SD card) then dump the footage from the camera into the folder on the computer. Another thing we learned how to import footage from our desktop to pinnacle footage. You click import then click the plus sign then your footage will pop up if it has a yellow check that means it is imported. We learned how to visually see if the footage is uploaded and what color indicates that it’s ready to be uploaded. If it has an orange box that means you are working on it.
Another really important thing we learned in class today is how to edit and add sound to our work. The first thing we talked about is how to add transitions. You add transitions by right clicking on the footage and open effects editor then go to transitions and choose which one you would like for example lighting editing. We also learned how to add a title you click on the text and add whatever title you want. The next thing we learned was how to add music, and we learned that our music has to be mp3 in folder. If you want to get rid of sound you have to click audio off for all. I really liked this lesson today, I’m really glad we learned all of this and I’m excited to learn more and start filming.

Planning

Hello it is October 10th and today my group and I are starting our planning for our commercial! In the planning process we are going to be looking at and discussing what locations to film at and why, any back up locations incase  the ones we originally picked out won’t be available, the costumes we will be wearing, and the props that will be included in the scene. It’s important to us that we have all of this information planned out prior to filming that way when it is time for us to film we know exactly what needs to get done and we can efficiently create our commercial.
   Props
•McDonald’s McNuggets, fries, and drink
•Backpack with notebooks and pencils
•Balloons
  Costumes
•Clown costume for McDonald’s mascot: red nose , face paint, Afro wig. Regular school clothes for other subject in scene
  Schedule
• 10/10 - Planning
• 10/14 - Storyboard blog
• 10/21 Filming blog
• 10/23 Editing Blog
We will probably film on the 18th of October but we aren’t positive yet and once we are done filming  we will immediately begin editing.
  Location list
• Senior patio (This will be our main location, we think it would be wise to film all in one location to limit confusion to viewer, Alex, will be  sitting down at one of the tables at the senior patio acting sad and then the clown will come into the shot giving me the Mcdoanlds meal)
  Back up plans
• Location back up will be our school’s crop circle, it will be a good enough resemblance to a table/ sitting area, if it’s raining we will film by the media center staircase where it is covered but we can still use the steps to sit and set our props.

Research Blog: Commercial Conventions

Hey everyone ! We are starting our first big project in media today, we have to create a commercial about a company from a list given to us, and we chose McDonald’s. We chose Mcdoanlds becuase we thought that it would be a fun commercial to make and we had many great ideas of what we could do and were immediately inspired. We’ve already started doing some brain storming on different scene ideas we can do and act out.
Some conventional or common codes that would be in a McDonald’s commercial would be a very positive connotation towards the audience. The symbolic codes is usually set in a McDonald’s restaurant with bright coloring and there is typically kids involved and the mascot for Mcdoanlds, Ronald McDonald. For technical codes, the lighting is bright with cheerful audio and their signature tune and the editing is used to appeal to the projected audience to persuade them to buy their products. Some written codes in a Mcondalds commercial is their slogan : I’m loving it!
Our group consists of 4 people, Jake, Alexandra, Morgan, and myself. We all plan on equally contributing into this project to make it the best it possibly can and using effective communion skills to communicate our differing ideas and thoughts about the project. We’re so excited to be starting up our first film on the year and we all think it’s going to be super entertaining to make, edit, and watch.

Hi my name is Avalon and this is my first blog, the first thing i'm going to talk about is just a little bit about me. My friends always say that i act silly around people or that i am outgoing and I can see that. I think I get shy when I first meet someone but once I get to know the person I become more comfortable being myself. All of my really good friends said that when they first met me that I looked mean, but once they got to know me I was really nice. I am very bold out of school especially when I am with my friends. I am definitely not bold in school because you have to see the people at your school everyday.
I really like to play volleyball with my siblings, we all play on a team together and I think that we are pretty good at it. Another thing I really like to do is spend time with my friends, I love going to the beach, or having a sleepover with them because they are so funny, and they are so much fun. I am really happy that my friends and I are really close, because I know I can always trust them. I also really like to cook, I want to get better at cooking but I love just knowing how to cook. This weekend my dad taught me how to cook some stuff and it was a lot of fun.
Speaking about the weekend, I did some pretty fun stuff this weekend. On Friday I went to my volleyball practice and it was a lot of fun. After my volleyball practice I came home and relaxed and did some face masks. On Saturday I went to my friends sweet 16. It was a lot of fun, I was dancing the whole night, by the end of the night I was so exhausted, but i'm so happy that I went.
